Sustainability commitments

Guided by their professional congress organizer and the host venue, both certified ISO 20121—an international voluntary standard for sustainable event management—the organizers are committed to integrating sustainability across all aspects of the event: logistics, themes, conferences, and scientific exchanges. In line with its focus on water, agricultural resilience, and climate challenges, the ICID 2026 Congress adopts an ambitious eco-responsible approach.

As a signatory of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region’s Eco-Responsible Charter, the event demonstrates its commitment to reducing its environmental impact and translating its objectives into concrete, measurable, and visible actions throughout its organization. This approach is built on four key pillars: transportation, catering, waste management, and energy.

Across all phases—preparation, setup, operation, and dismantling—the congress takes action to reduce its ecological footprint, promote short supply chains, limit resource consumption, and prioritize reusable, recyclable, and energy-efficient solutions.

Responsible Mobility

The congress encourages participants to prioritize carpooling, public transport, cycling, and walking. A dedicated carpooling platform is available, and practical information on sustainable mobility is provided upon registration and on the website.  For technical and touristic visits, low-impact solutions are favored, including optimized travel and walking tours whenever possible.

Waste Reduction

A key focus of the organization, waste prevention relies on extended sorting systems and modular booths that are reusable and repurposed after the event. The congress avoids non-essential giveaways, favors recycled materials and ensures their recovery and reuse after use.

Sustainable Catering

Catering services are entrusted to an ISO 20121-certified provider committed to responsible practices. Meals prioritize seasonal, local, and short supply chain products while significantly reducing packaging. Food waste prevention is central, supported by accurate planning and redistribution of surplus food to local associations.
